These films centre on the magic of friendship and imagination. When we recognize the magic in our differences we can imagine new worlds or discover new ways of relating to each other. Likewise, storytelling is a powerful tool for fostering curiosity, learning about others, and allowing others to learn more about us.

Three Trees

In a great big forest not far from us, the three best friends – Maple, Pine and Magnolia – live together on top of a mountain. As the seasons change, the three trees and their forest friends discover new and surprising things about themselves as they overcome growing pains and learn about friendship and their place in the world.

Directed by

M.R. Horhager and Aaron Hong are Canadian filmmakers. A seasoned director & writer, Horhager has worked on several award-winning TV series and short films. Veteran art director Hong’s career has spanned diverse media from films to interactive arts. THREE TREES is the duo’s collaboration exploring new animation aesthetics based on a story about integrity and self-identity.

Kristina 宇欣 (Pringle) is a writer/director working across narrative and non-fiction. The aim within her work has been to create worlds that fill the frame with colour, heart, and meaning. RICE BALL is a script that she wishes she’d seen more of on-screen when she was growing up and one that she hopes its future audience can relate to and feel joy from.

Directed by

Jonathan Ng is an award-winning animation filmmaker based in Montreal. Born in Toronto, he studied animation at Sheridan, Seneca, and Concordia University in a variety of hand-drawn, 3D and experimental techniques. Jonathan also works as a freelance animator and his feature film credits include THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES, THE MUMMY 3, THE LITTLE PRINCE, and more.

The Magic of Anansi

Britt Raes appeals to the child alive in each of us. Her first short CATHERINE travelled to 200 festivals worldwide, collecting 50 prizes along the way. Britt is also writing a series, a special, and a children’s book. Britt is now 35 years old, but when she’s home alone, sometimes she’s still a bit afraid of the dark.

Richard O’Connor is a director and producer of animation for documentary films, commercials, theatrical pieces, and original short films through his studio Ace & Son Moving Picture Co. Their work has appeared in documentaries on PBS series such as AMERICAN MASTERS and AMERICAN EXPERIENCE and in the recent, critically acclaimed animated documentary NUTS!
