After being released from prison, Lang returns to his hometown on the edge of the Gobi Desert only to find he has been largely outcast from his community. While working for the local animal control team to clear the town of strays before the 2008 Olympic Games, he strikes up an unlikely connection with a similarly stigmatised black dog.

Guan Hu is a renowned Chinese director who graduated from the Beijing Film Academy’s Department of Directing. Hu’s film BLACK DOG took home the Un Certain Regard prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Chinese film in nearly two decades to do so.
