Celebrating Local Talent: Mandeq’s Story

August 19, 2016 by Regent Park Film Festival

We would like to share a story with you that many of our supporters have found inspirational. It’s not often that we highlight the talented individuals that we work with but Mandeq’s story is one that we are very proud of. Here is a short message from our Excutive Director, Ananya Ohri.

mandeq

I first met Mandeq Hassan when she was looking for an editing suite to edit her first short documentary.

As her community festival, we have been part of the backdrop of Mandeq’s childhood, where annual class trips would bring her to a world of independent films at the festival. As a kid Mandeq would make her father get her special behind-the-scene footage for the films she loved.

Today, she has enjoyed the opportunity to develop her craft at the Regent Park Film Festival’s year-round workshops. She is now getting a comprehensive, behind-the scenes experience, as part of Living it to Learn it, our collaboration with the CBC Production of Kim’s Convenience. In September, Mandeq will be moving to Montreal, to study Film at Concordia.

It is thanks to our community of supporters, be they sponsors or donors and friends like you, that young people like Mandeq gain access to hands on experience and skills to help launch their creative careers.

Your support contributes to amplifying these young, diverse voices!
