A Nice Indian Boy

When: July 23, 2025 | Pre-show at 7:30 pm | Movie at sundown
Where: Regent Park, Main Field, 620 Dundas St. E. Toronto, ON

About the film

dir. Roshan Sethi | Romantic Comedy | 1h 39m | 2024

When Naveen, a soft-spoken doctor, finally brings his charming white-artist fiancé Jay home to meet his traditional Indian family, comic misunderstandings and emotional revelations put everyone on edge. Despite facing uncomfortable truths about their own ideas of love and marriage, the family attempts to plan the big Indian wedding of Naveen and Jay’s dreams. A celebration of love, Bollywood-style, Karan Soni and Jonathan Groff star in this jubilant rom-com about the importance of cultural ties and joyful family reconciliations.

Director Bio

Originally from Calgary, AB, Roshan Sethi is a physician and screenwriter who began writing as a student at Harvard Medical School. He is a co-creator of the American medical drama series The Resident and the director of the film 7 Days.

7:30 ~ Pre-Show

★ Drag performance by Mango Lassi (@_humzer): Humza A. Mian aka Mango Lassi is a queer Canadian-Pakistani who currently resides in the GTA. He is a Registered Veterinary Technician who works in the downtown core, and a drag queen who got his start on social media. The focus of his drag is to bring awareness to the existence of queer Desi folk and breaking the chains of toxic masculinity that hold so many queer Desi’s back from expressing themselves.

★ Drop-in Zine Making with Aniqah Rahman:  Participants will arrive at the zine making table where there will be guiding questions that align with the themes of the film being screened — this will provide direction for participants who want to create a zine but don’t know where to start. They will have access to a range of magazines, coloured and textured papers, markers, etc. along with suggestions from me to create zines they can take home.

★ Crafts, queer and trans-inclusive sari and dhoti tutorials, and participatory art piece with Queer South Asians: Queer South Asians (QSA) will be selling crafts made by community members in order to support QSA’s year long free programs and events. There will also be a live art piece for attendees to participate in by writing or painting a creative message of support for the LGBTQ South Asian community on a shared canvas. QSA will also provide queer and trans inclusive sari and/or dhoti tutorials to anyone interested in learning how to wear these traditional South Asian garments.
