Pre-Show:

The party starts before the movie! Join us on the field at 7:30pm not only just to snag a good seat, but also for family-friendly activities and fun. Lay your blanket down, secure your popcorn, and relax until the show starts!

★ Henna by Aniqa Al-basith 

★ Drop-in Zine Making with Aniqah Rahman:Participants will arrive at the zine making table where there will be guiding questions that align with the themes of the film being screened — this will provide direction for participants who want to create a zine but don’t know where to start. They will have access to a range of magazines, coloured and textured papers, markers, etc. along with suggestions from me to create zines they can take home.

★ Next Generation Arts: Drop by the Next Generation Arts booth to participate in a fun, freestyle painting and colouring activity! Bring your creativity, playfulness, and imagination and express yourself through strokes and colour—no experience needed. Youth, families, and community members are invited to contribute to a vibrant artwork celebrating joy, healing, and community connection.

About the film

In 2008, during the last month of summer before high school begins, an impressionable 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy learns what his family can’t teach him: how to skate, how to flirt, and how to love your mom.

Director Bio

Sean Wang is an Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker from the Bay Area. He is a Google Creative Lab 5 alum, former Sundance Ignite Fellow, and 2023 Sundance Screenwriters & Directors Lab Fellow. In 2024, he was named a BAFTA Breakthrough Artist and received the Sundance Vanguard Award for Fiction.

His feature directorial debut, Dìdi (弟弟), premiered in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it won the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award, Special Jury Prize for Best Ensemble Cast. The Guardian called Dìdi (弟弟) “one of the best, most seamless films on the experience of growing up online” and the film was a New York Times Critics Pick, nominated for 4 Independent Spirit Awards, including Best First Feature, and was named one of the top ten independent films of 2024 by the National Board of Review.
