We’ve invited 3 talented Black filmmakers screening work at RPFF ’24 to share how they reimagine stories that sit beyond the confines of traditional narratives of the future and society. How does their storytelling push the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of Black creativity and artistic resistance?
Abigail Whitney
Abigail Whitney, is an international model, actor, and internationally award-winning theatre and film director and producer. She’s the independent producer and director of the Haitian classic play “The Noose”. Some of her previous works include Seule (2021) and Remembering Me (2024), a short documentary a part of Netflix’s “Being Black in Canada” program. Remembering Me screened at the Vancouver and Montreal International Black Film Festivals and will screen at this year’s Regent Park Film Festival. Abigail is currently independently producing and directing her next short fiction film.

Ayo Tsalithaba
Ayo Tsalithaba is a visual artist, writer, researcher and award-winning filmmaker, from Ghana and Lesotho and based in Toronto.
Their primary mediums include film, photography and illustration. Their work explores questions of home, (in)visibility, liminality and (un)belonging as they relate to Black queer and trans* African diasporic subjectivity.
Jamal Burger
Jamal Burger is a filmmaker and Founder of The Kickback Foundation. He cares deeply about bringing people together, and offering opportunities for people to connect through art and sport. Through his years with a camera, Jamal has travelled the world, worked with brands such as BMW, Nike, Jordan and more. Growing up in Regent Park, Jamal understands how lucky he is, and his only hope is to multiply the opportunities he’s been granted 1000 times over.
