FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
(1) Can i apply for more than one position?
Yes, you are welcome to apply for more than one position. However, we suggest you tailor your cover letter for each position to demonstrate how your skills and experience will fit the requirements of the role. While versatility and adaptability is an asset in a small team like ours, we do still require specific skill sets for each role and are looking for individuals who indicate they can carry out the duties of the role.
(2) Is a cover letter really necessary?
You’ll see from our job descriptions that we don’t require people to have education or strong experience in the role. We’re open to hiring individuals with different perspectives and experiences who are eager to transfer their skills to the role, BUT we may not immediately see how your skills are transferrable – so tell us!
Also, if the role requires a lot of writing, a cover letter is a way for you to show off your skills in that area. It’s also a way to show off your personality and highlight things you’re proud of in your past roles, or talk about how you connect to the mission of RPFF.
Please don’t include your cover letter in the email, we only read the PDF you attach!
(3) how long is the interview process?
Candidates that meet our criteria will be invited to a first round phone interview with one member of the Hiring Committee. After some deliberation, a select number of candidates will be invited to a second round interview with three members of the Hiring Committee, either over Zoom or at RPFF’s offices. The choice is up to the candidate and there is no judgement either way, but an in-person interview gives people a chance to see the office and neighbourhood they would potentially be spending time in, and connect with potential future co-workers in a way that’s not possible through a screen. After all interviews are complete and the Hiring Committee deliberates, an offer will be made to our chosen candidate.
(4) Can I work remotely? Do I have to work in the office?
RPFF is a hybrid workplace and we require all staff to be in the office once per week for our full staff meeting (currently on Tuesdays). Furthermore, as we’re an event-based organization, we also require all staff to be onsite for all our events throughout the year, and for pre-event prep work in the week or so leading up to the event. Therefore, it’s not necessary to be in the office all the time, but there will be days where everyone will be in the office multiple times throughout the year.
(5) How often do you host events?
Our year-round programming changes year-to-year, however two of our events are consistently presented every year: (1) Under the Stars, our annual summer outdoor film series, happens every Wednesday evening in July; and (2) our Annual Film Festival occurs at the end of November.
(6) How often do you hire contract or temporary positions at RPFF?
Each year we hire three Coordinators on a contract from May to December to help with our two major events. Leading up to our Annual Film Festival we also hire people to fill short-term roles such as Stage Manager, Volunteer Assistant, Print Traffic Assistant, and Photographers. Keep an eye out for these positions going live by following us on social media (@RegentParkFilm).
