English Vinglish

When: July 5, 2023 | Pre-show at 7:30 pm | Movie at sundown
Where: Regent Park, main field, 620 Dundas St. E. Toronto, ON

In the event of rain, the Regent Park screenings will be moved to the main floor of Daniels Spectrum (585 Dundas St. E.).

Pre-Show:

Drum Circle
This activity is open to the public! Drum circle will allow audiences with little to no experience to play hand drums and learn basic rhythms. Join CMST (Community Music Schools of Toronto) faculty Waleed, in call and response games and music making in this musical park activation!

Community Music Schools of Toronto is a registered charity that gives children and youth a rich and rewarding music and social education, by removing the financial obstacle. For over 23 years we have seen that the study of music allows young people to flourish creatively, personally and academically…enriching their lives and future prospects. 

Giant Games
RPFF brings you fun outdoor games like Giant Jenga, Corn Hole and Ring Toss. Free to apply before the film!

Henna
Artist Aniqa Al-basith will be providing free henna art for attendees!

English Vinglish

Film Synopsis:
English Vinglish is a heart-warming Hindi-English story about Shashi Godbole, a charming homemaker and laddoo seller eager to learn English. When Shashi is invited to New York to help plan her niece’s wedding, she decides to take English classes to improve her skills and end the hurtful taunts she receives from her husband and daughter for her lower level English. Her charm and strong-willed personality helps her bond with many of her classmates and develop a self-confidence equipped for tackling the adventures of New York

Director Bio:
Gauri Shinde is an Indian director and screenwriter who made her directorial debut when English Vinglish (2012) was first released at the Toronto International Film Festival. Along with receiving high acclaim and commercial success, English Vinglish is known for having launched the comeback of actress Sridevi. Shinde went on to direct Dear Zindagi (2016).
