Looking Back at Regent Park

January 2, 2014 by Ananya

60 years ago Regent Park was undergoing its first revitalization. When the buildings being replaced today were first built.

Regent Park Film Festival is screening two short films representing our ever changing neighbourhood in two historic moments of its evolution.

Kathleen Smith’s film Roses takes place amid Regent Park’s current transformation. It introduces us to long-time Regent Park resident Rose Edwards as she stays the course by managing a group of young dancers called South Side Swag

Our feature presentation of the short film Farewell Oak Street takes us back to how Regent Park was when first created. What did the community look like? Who lived here? What were the issues? What were the solutions? Take a break, have a coffee, take in the fascinating images of this community in the 50’s and learn a bit about this neighborhood. The screening is followed by a community discussion.
